  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

She absolutely needs to see the vet. It could be something simple like a wee infection, or it could be a sign of something more sinister. Do you have an emergency vet?

Even unspayed females wouldn't have somthing like this. They don't have seasons or anything!

As above, Vet ASAP! It's deffintly not normal.

Not normal at all. Could the blood be in urine? If it is it could be caused by a urine infection and would require to be treated with antibiotics. Whatever it is though, it's not right and defnintely needs to see a vet.

Rabbit urine can look quite red, are you sure it's blood? Has she had any changes/additions to her diet? I think the pigments in different foods can make the urine look red. Someone else on here will probably know more, though.
I hope she is ok!

Rabbits don't have 'periods' whether they are spayed or not, so if it is blood you need to see the vet quickly. If it's just red urine then it could be due to eating too many red foods. However you need to be completely sure it's not blood.

This is not normal at all, even in an unspayed female bun. Please get bunny to the vet ASAP.

It's possible that it could be caused by diet, too much lettuce for example, can cause red urine, or too many carrots etc.

I wouldn't risk it though, especially as you say there's been a lot of blood, bun should really see a vet urgently.

i agree that a vet would be needed asap if you are certain it is blood. could be bladder/uti related, or something more. good luck and let us know how you get on at the vets xx
