Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Baytril Administration

I have baytril to give Radish as she has been licking her spay wound but I know I will struggle to syringe feed it to her.

Has anyone got some tips on any other ways I can fool her into taking it like putting it in food :)

Also it was given to her as a preventative measure because of the licking and I wondered if this was normal practice?

Could you put it on a digestive biscuit? :) Or mix it into a bit of mashed banana if she eats that? :) xXx

She has never had Banana unfortunately but I could get some biscuits and try that.

She normally eats Celery, Parsley, Grapes, Rocket, Brocolli and Cucumber. Would it be easy to add it to any of those or would it just fall off?

My vet told me to mix it with a bit of ribena in the syringe as they like the taste. It certainly worked for me recently when I had to give my french lop baytril. Good luck.

I am currently administering (sp) as Guinness has an abcess. We were syringing it to him but this really stressed him out so I asked how else we could do it and we are now putting it in his water. He is a Nethie and weights less that a KG. He is getting 0.8ml to every 100ml of water. It gets changed and re-administered every night. He seems to be doing fine. I'm not suggesting you do this without vets advice but it may be worth calling and asking if it was an option. It's alot easier for us and Guinness.

I was told if you keep it in the fridge, the taste is less obvious so they will take it more willingly. For the rats I put it on a bit of bread our something tasty and they take the lot.

My bun loves celery so I made a slit in it with the knife (not cut right through) and dribble the baytril into it. Unfortunately she sussed that out after a while and eats around the slit. I have a long thin syringe (1ml) which helps as it can slide right into the mouth and Vin puts us much less of a fuss. I feel your pain, I have a bun definitely not fond of medicine!

When Walter was on baytril I put it on a little bit of brown bread and then wrapped it up in a basil leaf :) Maybe you could do that with a rocket leaf?
