I thought EC spores where only shed in the urine via the Kidneys. So why would a Vetlab request a Urine Sample or a Faecal Sample for PCR testing for EC ?

EC- PCR Testing (Polymerase Chain Reaction Testing)

I may come accross quite sad here and apologies if you are already aware of this, but PCR is a way of finding VERY small amounts of DNA in a sample. Could it be a way of detecting EC even if it is at the earliest stages of infection?

No idea, its apparently to check for 'active shedding of spores' :?

It sounds feasible if a little odd. Maybe they have found new methods for detecting EC and your lab is at the cutting edge
After all antibody detection is not always very reliable.

When PALS released that test I was also non-plussed. I discussed it with other bunny vets and we agreed that faecal testing would be less accurate as shedding is not well understood and urine testing was far preferable as we know how the parasite's life cycle progresses in the kidneys and had a better idea of how test results would fit with clinical disease.
