  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

which nebuliser?

after paying over £200 for renting the nebuliser from the vets, i am now having to buy one aswell! (long story!)

anyway, i need one for matt for his parvolex antibiotics.

anyone recommend one please.

i have looked at some and they are many different price ranges and i can't see why, and what the difference is between them!

thank you

The difference is mainly in how small the nebuliser breaks the particles up into. The really expensive ones will get it small enough that it would work for a mouse. I was told by an exotics specialist to just buy the cheap one from maplins :)

I would imagine the vets have pricier ones so they can be used for a range of different animals and techniques - the expensive ones might be better for mice or small birds for example, whereas the maplins one probably doesn't produce a fine enough mist for the tiny lungs of those tiny animals. They are probably also variable so that they can use them both for different types of routine and for intensive care treatments.

Also the more expensive one is probably more durable - built for 'industrial', more continuous use than the cheaper ones you can get, so more suitable for a vets practice where they might be used for long-term nebulising of a critical patient. It's probably also quieter running so less likely to drive everyone mad

Like I said, the exotics specialist told me the £20 Maplins one does everything it needs to do for bunnies :)

makes sense! thank you! :D

i got the £45 one in the end... seen it mentioned a few times when reading up about them... so hopefully it will be here today! or tomorrow. :D

ah... nothing is ever simple! the nebuliser instructions say not to put more than 7ml of meds in.... matt has 1ml parvolex and 9ml water!

jane, have you used yours with more than that in?

also says to sterilise it before first use, and after each use... i never did with the other one! i wasn't told to!
