  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Teeth Spurs

I am slightly concerned about one of our buns, Albert. He had a 'snotty' left nostril yesterday. Gae him Baytril but it was fine today. He seems a bit 'off'. He is eating but not very enthusiastically. I have an Otoscope so took a look at his teeth. I'm finding it hard to tell what they should look like. I looked at his wife's teeth to compare (they are both lionheads and same size). Hers looked the same and she seems fine.

I drew a picture on paint to show what I saw:

This is what I could see when looking straight on from the front of the mouth, the left side being where the tongue would be and the right side at the outerside of the mouth. The point isn't as pointy but I couldn't get it smoother on paint.

How do you think they look?

P.S. Will be taking Albert to vet tomorrow regardless.

They don't sound too bad to me, spurs normally come off at a more horizontal angle, going into the tounge or cheek. But if you are worried I would get him checked properly at the vets :)
