Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Myxomatosis Outbreaks 2010/2011

Leanne

Wise Old Thumper
Hey all.

Can people please add CONFIRMED Myxomatosis outbreaks in their area with the date of first case.

This will help to warn people who have not vaccinated their rabbits and to consider minimising risks of contracting the disease.

Many thanks.

Several wildies with myxi were seen by one of our vets, at Beacon Hill, Leicester in April.

A good friend has lost a rabbit to Myxomatosis today in Lincoln. :(

The Lincoln P&H has a warning up saying there have been several reported cases in the area and are advising people to vaccinate their rabbits.

My vet said last week that Oxfordshire is very bad for Myxi but VHD hasn't been heard of for a very long time.

Yep, the area is rife with it apparently. She had another bun pull through nodular myxi but this ones vaccine immunity hadn't developed in time. It's heartbreaking, he was only a baby. :(

I saw at least 4 wildies with myxi whilst staying with my grandparents over the easter weekend in Bucks fairly near to Milton Keynes

I've seen a couple of wildies that definitely had it recently- I'm just north of Swindon, so Swindon/ the Wiltshire- Gloucs border is probably a problem area :(
