  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

My Rabbit is not eating and is lethargic

Unfortunately RIGSBY passed away at 9:15 tonight. Despite us keeping a constant watch over him and trying to feed him there was nothing we more we could do than offer all the love and support we gave him right untill the end. We are completely distraught and devastated to lose him.

Having saw my vet twice today she didnt recommend anything other than what she administered and we followed her advice to the end. Having researched into advice given on this forum it's my opinion that he could well have had the parasite E.cuniculi.

I use the internet every day, sometimes for hours but this is the first time I've ever been part of a forum. I would like to thank everyone who has responded tonight, your love and concern for Rigsby was much appreciated. Please just give your rabbits a stroke and a hug for us tonight. Sentimental old nonsense I know, but I mean it.

I am so sorry Rigsby didn't make it. You did all you could for him and made sure he knew he was loved. Thinking of you. Take care.

I am so sorry to hear about your litle boy. I know how it feels to lose a companion.

It sounds just like the case my bunny had. He had a good diet, drank, lots of exercice. Just one night, he started acting weird...not moving...not eating his timothy cubes. We brought him in to the emerg. vet. She told us that he had a hairball the size of a golfball. She gave give some IV....Maybe 15mins after that he started drinking again. Afterwards we had to give him some medication to soften up the hairball. After a while it went away.

The key thing is too make sure you give bunny unlimited amounts of hay...1/3 cup of pellets.. and fresh veggies.

Again I'm sorry to hear about your little man. Its too get another bunny right away for your healing process. It worked for me. Its the best thing my parents ever did to me

Take Care
Lissa

I am so very sorry to hear that Rigsby passed away, binky free at the bridge Rigsby xx

So sorry for your loss.

Your vet should have ask you to inject sub-Q fluid to his body as well as force feeding w/ either critical care or non-meat baby food. Further, w/ the teeth grinding, he should be given metacam.

If you are interested in adopting a rescue bunny from a rescue center, here's a list of rescue center in UK

http://www.rabbitrehome.org.uk/centres.asp

or go to the Rabbit In NEED section and see who's available

Or post in the rabbit in need section, many members w/ rescue centers will response to you

In any event, you have to find a rabbit savvy specialist in the future if you plan to adopt another bun, your current vet clearly doesn't know what he is talking about. Vet vs. Rabbit Savvy Vet is 2 different things, it's like apple and orange. Call around your area for an Exotic Pet specialist specialize in rabbit ahead of time if you're planning for an adoption

gawd im soos sorry..im going thru intensive nursing myself:(

its all well and good to say what the vet should have done or given as yoursd oes etc..not all of us have bunsavvy vets andif we do theyre governed by the supplies or policies of the company who own the vets.!!
we are all at risk of having a bad vet at one point but even good vets can slip up or think its not as bad as you think you it is but suddenly it gets worse but you take the vets words for gospel.
ive asked and had it thrown back in my face but not with my vet today..she was more concerned with is stressing him out more and him not getting enough flid...she subq about 24hrs worth of fluids today so im going ot fed him in a minute...despite him eating small amoutns of hay.

so sorry you lost your bun xxx

I know it is seven years later, but your post has helped me. Today I lost my sweet dwarf bunny Philip. He had all the same symptoms as your Rigsby and he passed away at 9:15 am. I am so sad and cannot believe how fast it hit him. But you post made me realize my husband and I did all we could. So thank you Missymae
