Can rabbits eat tomato?

Hi, I was wondering if it is safe for a rabbit to eat tomato.

I have tomato plants in my garden and every time a ripe one falls to the ground the rabbits eat it. Will it make them sick?

I was of the belief that rabbits know by instinct what to eat. They have munched many a carrot top and dandelions as well as some flowers, which has never made them sick, but they have never touched the potato, or tomato plants (just the fruit!).

Tomato is ok but only as a treat as it's very sugary. The actual plant is poisonous though so please make sure your buns can't get to those just in case they do decide to have a little munch!

they can eat the tomatoes but not the leaves/plant

and only in small portions as it is very sweet and prone to creating overweight bunnies

My lot don't like it, so i don't give it, they much prefer to have abit of carrot or apple every now and then as a treat!
