  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Susan, eye issues

Susan has another sore eye, email appointment last week and eye drops given. She gets sore eys ie conjunctivitis a lot and usually the eye drops work. However 5 days in and the 3rd eyelid is visible and no sign of reduced weepyness and Susan is "off"
Socially distant appointment today for Rups to have his vaccinations so Susan went with him piggybacked onto his appointment.

Her eye is bulging slightly but Sheryl thinks that there maybe an abscess behind. When Susan was with the RSPCA she had a growth removed from that eye. Treatments today included an unsuccessful tear duct flush, she is on pain killers, anti inflammatory and and antibiotics for a week. With another appointment with Sheryl if no improvement. Photos taken from above with wetted back fur to give a better monitor for the bulging.

Oh I'm sorry, poor Susan :( I hope that the medication works and you don't need to go back. I hadn't remembered her treatment with the RSPCA. Sending her lots of vibes.

I can't see a photo.

Oh Sorry, I didnt actually put the photo on - I was meaning that I had taken one as I dont know how else to measure if the bulge is increasing. Susan has never had another growth from the one at the Rspca and came with a clean bill of health. Thank you for your reply x

How is Susan doing?

Wow you must be psychic, today we had to have an emergency appointment. OH took her as I was at work. OH had a million instructions and arrived in the carpark with Susan. Sheryl came and got her and OH read her all my whatsap messages.
Sheryl took Susan away and did vet measuring and was confident that actually the bulge had not increased it just looked different as her clipped hair is growing back. Susan was given an injection for her gut as her poos are a little smaller than usual and she is not eating quite as well. Sheryl did offer to change the pain relief if we thought that might help.

Thank you for asking. We are monitoring her very closely.
