  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Has my bunny got myxomatosis?

Georgie1

New Kit
My rabbit was vaccinated against myxomatosis 3 months ago but has developed warts around her eyes, nose and mouth. Our vet is useless and has no idea what it wrong with her. We have been back 3 times and they have charged us £100 and we still have no diagnosis. After doing some research on the net I discovered it may me myxomatosis but as she has been already vaccinated it is less life threatening and more treatable. Has anyone had any experience of this? How is it treated? Or does anyone have an other suggestions as to what these warts may be? I would greatly appreciate any help.

whereabouts are you? people might be able to suggest a vet that is more experienced with rabbits.

Yeah, pictures would help. :)

Also, could you list what meds your bunny has tried so far? The people on this forum are really knowledgable about what medicines are good and bad for certain illnesses (not me though I'm afraid, I don't know much at all! ).

My bun got a scabby nose a while back and my vet diagnosed myxi - I came to RU for advice on keeping him comfy, posted a picture, and got a lot of advice... from RU I even found out it wasn't myxi at all but something else so I'd really recommend getting a picture up!

Also, great name you've got there ;)
