  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Baby rabbits born yesterday from tame stray silver marten - are they half wild? HELP!

You don't necessarily get all agouti - hence you sometimes see wild populations with odd colours. Black and agouti is most common though.

Give them a few more days and the hair will start coming through more and it will be easier to tell colours :)

Just a note about blocking upstairs off could you put in a strip of wood in the doorway that's a few inches high, so that the mum can still jump over it, but any wanderers won't fall down the ramp :)

I think I might try the lip in the doorway. I have a strip of wood to attach and was going to separate it in half with about 3 inch high wood, but my try the lip and the door and see if she can still get in.

Regarding the agouti patterning, am I right in thinking that they are black with white bellies and underneath white tails, as 3 are like this and now starting to have a tint of brown to their coat, but 2 of them are black with white bellies, but full colour tails and no hint of brown like the others have just started to show today, so wondered if they maybe more like their mum (photo). I just don't want to rehome them without being fully open to people of possibility of them being more difficult to care for. I am hoping lost of handling at a young age by myself and the family may go some way into making them more trustful. I understand otter, etc colours are recessive and maybe unlikely to be wild if I have some this colour, or have I been misinformed?

Thanks again for all your help.

Also, I have noticed fleas and asked vet but he says not to treat until kits are older and to just spray the bedding for now. Advice on this would be appreciated. I have ordered some advantage to be ready.
