Animal ambulance

Wise Old Thumper
I saw this this morning https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/jan/08/animal-ambulances-demand-pet-emergency-care

I know nothing about them and don't know how much faith I would put in their two day intensive course at a vet hospital, but as a means of transport if someone is stuck, they could be useful if one is in your area. Quite often we hear on RU that someone hasn't got the means available to take their pet to the vet. I would say that if that were me, I would rather trust a company like this than a taxi driver, but probably no more than that.

Would be interesting to know if anyone has any experience of this type of service.

My vet has the phone number of a pet-friendly taxi company available. They also use locum mobile vets, who can be called out to your home.
An animal ambulance is something I would consider if I didn't have other transport and the animal(s) had to get to a surgery. Pets that will fit in a cat carrier are easier to deal with than, say, a large dog that has to be carried - so a specialist transport service would be useful, although I've never used one.

P used an Animal Ambulance a few times for her dogs when she and N lived in Mitchum. Apparently they were very reliable and the bonus being that they won’t throw a hissy fit if your car sick prone dog vomits in the vehicle.

Around here very few Taxi Cabs will accept passengers with animals. Not even if the Animal is in a Pet Carrier. Well, that’s been my experience anyway.

I think there might be one in my area, but I'm very lucky to have a small local family taxi firm, who are happy to transport pets. I have used them twice to take Georgie cat to the vets, once was 3am in an emergency, they were brilliant and so kind.
