  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

hello everyone.my little holland lop moo has an abcess under her ear and my vet would like to put her under to x-ray her head to look at her teeth roots and also to cut open the abcess.the vet is concerned that the abcess is linked to a severe dental issue.moo is coming up 4 and i only have experience of severe dental probs with my old bun elvie, who sadly had to go to the bridge because of it.if the abcess is bad news, what can i expect for little moo and the rest of her life?does this mean i could lose her at this young age or can it be kept at bay?i guess we wont know much until the results of the op come in but any advice or experiences would be much appreciated:) thanks again

I'm sorry that must be really worrying for you. Poor little Moo. I don't have any experience with this but I'm sure someone will be along soon with some good advice. Sending healing vibes xxx

awe thankyou binkey bun:)i am trying to keep positive but after losing my gorgeous rex boy bam last week, its hard.

Hi one of my buns had an abscess behind her eye which they thought was due to her teeth. she ended up losing the eye because of the abscess but they couldn't figure out what caused it:? . I would be prepared for a bun who is reluctant to eat if they are going to drain the abscess. I think when it is on the head, around the mouth etc the pain is a lot worse for them when eating. It took pistachio nearly a week to eat solids again, i was syringe feeding her hipps organic baby food from a jar, its liquid so syringes easily. she loved it and happily ate this which meant she didn't go into stasis:roll: . might be worth getting some to be prepared. I hope it is good news for her, and if you have a rabbit savvy vet i am sure they will do their best for your bun x Jess

thanks for that jess,i will prepare myself for that now.lets keep our fingers and toes crossed for my little moo, bless her.
