Suncream for rabbits

Dear All,

I am wondering if any of you have put suncream on to any vulnerable bits of your bunnies. The thing is Blue has one grey ear and one white ear and on the white ear you can see through to her skin as it's not that thick. Do any of you rub in sun cream in order to shield from the hot sun? If so will any lotion work? It scares me that she may suffer sun burn if/when it gets hot again.

Thanks,

Mez

I have never had to put it on rabbits before but I did used to put it on my pony's nose as he was grey and had pink bits on his nose. I think its a great idea or alternatively shade the area off so he is never in the sun.

I used to put sunscreen on my Abigail's ears as she was an albino and I assumed that like humans they could still burn in the shade. Perhaps choose a more natural version like green people or similar, in case they lick it off.

They always have shade but sometimes Blue is a sun worshipper. Thanks for your comments x

Thats probably not a bad idea. I've seen a few white cats lose their ears through skin cancer (at RSPCA). Its always advisable to apply sun block to white cats ears, and white dogs ears and noses to prevent burning, so if you have a sun loving white rabbit I guess theyre just as vulnerable. I always advise baby sunblock, the thick white stuff, its safer and harder to wipe/lick off.:)

Thats what i thought, i used to have a guinea pig with white ears. I was forever coating the stuff on. I'm hoping Blue won't eat it x
