  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

vaseline or sudacrem

Wise Old Thumper
which is the best to use as a barrier cream.

my old thumper (age 9 ) is almost always wet on his back legs and bottom .

Im sure this is incontinence because of his age . He is well on himself and eating etc and has had a course of panacur last month to rule out EC.

i just feel sorry for him as his skin looks to be sore at times . :?

Hi

When Fiver has cystitis I use Fuciderm to take down the inflammation and then cover it with a layer of vaseline which seems to hold of water better due to its oliy consistency.

I'd use sudecreme if he's sore to help healing. Vasaline if the skin is fine and it's just a preventative.

Has the vet ruled out a bladder infection? Can test urine for that. If he's otherwise in good health and doesn't have mobility problems effecting lifting his bun to go it's worth checking. I don't think on it's own incontinence is that common in bunnies.

he was checked around a month ago but it has got worse ....will mention it again when we go back in around a week .

its something that has gradualy got worse over the last month or so and yes he does have slight mobility problems . He can still get around ok but his back end seems to have sunk nearer the floor .:(

i have him on vet bed in his hutch which helps .

Hes looking very old and tired :( :(

i have been using a healing cream from the vet but this doesnt seem enough on its own ...ill try vaseline over the top .

He may have some arthritis in his hips/spine which makes it uncomfortable to adopt the correct position to wee. You could ask your Vet about giving him a drop of Metacam to see if it helps his mobility

I've been using sudocrem on Bouncer when he's been wetting himself. He was on baytril & metacam, & it's not as bad now, as it was, but still not right:?

He's actually better when he's outside - I think he runs about more:?

The best thing I have found for sore rabbit bottoms is gorgeous guineas' soothe gel. The stuff is brilliant. It works even better on rabbits than it does on guinea pigs.
