Its a condition "called shopes papilloma virus"

The "horns" were apparently composed primarily of hair, and were hard, although not nearly as hard surfaced as horns of antlers of the authentic type. They were carefully examined by Department biologists, and were subsequently cut from the rabbit's head and sent to the Zoology Department at South Dakota State University for cross-section examination. It is not known what causes such abnormal growths on animals.

I dont understand the condition? Can pet bunnies get it?

cattle grow horns in much the same way don't worry about it a pet bunny won't get it if it's looked after in fact it's a rare event that any bunny will get it, but a bunny that is looked after and groomed properly won't have matted hair and when hair mats with grime from god knows what it hardens into horns.

At least that's my understanding.

very strange. they have to contact some odd disease in order to cause that kind of growth. A while ago, I read an article of men contact some odd bat bite, and they ends up having some ??? disease. I bet the above is something of a similar nature

Gosh that is so terrible, very sad

It appears to be a very wild thing, situated only in the states. I think we would know more on the subject if any domestic rabbits have had this, so don't start to panic everyone!
