  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Sore after VHD jab

Dandelion and Florence had their VHD job about 10 days but Dandelion had quite a reaction to it. Last year he was fine and it was Florence who got VHD limp. Anyway he was so distressed that he stopped eating - i caught it in time and treated him at home (he's a regualar gas sufferer so i know what to do) He developed a scab on his neck about the size of a penny. It is dry but looks a bit nasty. It doesn't seem to bother him.

Could this be from the way the jab was administered? Our usual vet, whom i trust, has moved practice and we didn't know so we had her replacement and imo she wasn't as very good. (moving vets now) Should I inform the vet?

Should I inform the vet?

Yes :)

The site of vaccination should be massaged for at least 3 minutes after the vaccination has been given to disperse the vaccine. It is oil based and can cause a nasty skin reaction. Also, a different needle should be used to give the vaccination from the one used to draw it up.

I hope both Bunnies are not sore anymore
