  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

insurance & EC - what a cop out

im absolutely seething. as you might know, Frida has been experiencing bouts of gi stasis and i was all set for having her tested for EC as a possible cause.

being the responsible owner that i am, i have frida insured, and rang pet protect today to check whether they would definitely pay for EC tests. of course they will, but if EC is causing the stasis then the entire claim will be negated, and probably any future claims for anything that could potentially be caused by EC. the reason for this??? "EC is caused by a parasite and we dont pay for any routine or preventative treatment for worms, internal or external parasites" :( I suppose i should have read the very small print on my insurance documents but i didnt think they would be so exact.

so now im not having Frida tested for EC, as it will affect the existing claim and future claims. After discussion with my vet, I'm going to give her a 28 day course of panacur, which im not buying through the vet, and im just going to go with my suspicion that she has got EC.

Vent over now - feel a bit better

I ahte insurance companies, I hardly ever get anything insured cos I just think they'll find a way not to pay out. Sorry to hear you've had all this trouble.:?
