Barney Bored

Hi

We've had Barney for about 4 months and i think hes about 10 months old and neutered.
Problem is he dosnt do much, he lives in doors and spends most of the day sitting under the bathroom sink unit next to a big box he chews on daily. If hes not sitting there he'll be in the front room sitting under the table staring into space. This is all he'll really do during the day. In the evening he'll run around a bit and then just sit on the floor or go back to the bathroom. He more or less keeps him self to himself, kind of a shy rabbit.
I want to find out if hes bored/depressed and if so what can we do too cheer him and make him more lively? The other half is taking about getting him a friend as she says hes lonely.
Any advice would really be appreciated.

Many thanks
Mark

Definitely a friend. A spayed female would be great company for him. My pairs play together and snuggle up together. It's lovely to see.
Have a look on Rabbit Rehome, or the Rabbits in Need section here - lots of bunnies needing forever homes.

Does he have any toys? You can get some willow balls etc. on the hay experts and bunny basics.

Dont forget that rabbits are crepuscular so he will be liveliest early morning/early evening and quieter during the day. I find Muppet tends to snooze between 11.30 and 16.30. He does his morning/evening binkies and then scampers around for a bit (more so in the mornings really).

Toys would help - and you can play too ;) (Yes, I'm the one playing bunny chase on the rug, or tossing loo roll tubes around, or standing by the backdoor cheering him on getting his pellets out of the treatball in the run ) And just general interaction so that you're his company. There's a toy thread in the reference section if you're stuck for ideas.

It's hard if you work full-time I think. There arent enough hours in the day for work, bunny socialising and sleep!
