Rosie Rabbit
Mama Doe
Can a bunny who's been single for a long time be bonded successfully? And should they be? We're having a dilemma over whether or not to get another bun to bond with Rosie and I could do with some input. :?
She has been a single housebunny since we got her 2.5 years ago (and probably was single before that too - she is maybe around 4 years old but could be older).
She is a very relaxed, laid back, apparently happy bun. I'm at home all day and spend literally hours with her - I climb in with her and she enjoys lots cuddles, kisses and noserubs several times a day. She's very affectionate with me.
One the one hand, I do know though that no matter how much attention she gets from us, it's probably no substitute for another bunny. And there are times I'm not here and I worry if she's lonely. On the other hand, I saw a post the other day where someone said that what rabbits like best is for things to stay the same, and that bonding was perhaps not always in a bun's best interests.
I suppose I'm wary of upsetting things - she does seem a pretty happy bunny, so I'm not sure what to do - but I do want to do what's best for her, even if it breaks her bond with me a bit.
Incidentally, we always did intend to have two. We adopted her as a male, intending to bond a female with her (as I knew this was easier), but the rescue mis-sexed her. So, having a female, we then got a male bunny a while ago from someone who was looking to rehome, but he was snuffly and our vet advised us to return him before we introduced them. So it's not been a great success so far!
Sorry for the long post, but any advice would welcome, thanks.
