  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

diorrhea

touie

Wise Old Thumper
Caramel has diorrhea today, she is prone to tummy problems and on day 9 of a 10 day course of baytril. I have made some biolapis up in her waterbottle.

I was wondering if there's anything else i can do to help?

I will see the vet later so can hopefully ask if I should carry on with the last days worth or leave it, it does seem to have made a difference, she doesn't appear so snotty. I'm really not sure whats best :?

It's very serious in buns - so definitely vets. I've only seen it once - when Kendra went all floppy & that was scary cos that's the illest I've seen a bun:shock:

Make sure she is drinking & eating plenty of hay. I wouldn't give veg or anything, but vets vets vets

Hope she's ok.

As for baytril - I'm not sure, but you could ask your vet. I think they just need a 7 day course minimum, so 9 days might be ok if she has other probs - but check with the vet:D

thanks :D It's not really bad diorrhea she's as lively as ever and not doing any more than her usual amount of poo, it's just that it's runny! :?

You must always finish a course of antibiotics otherwise the bacteria build up a resistance to it and it won't work next time.

If she has diarrhea don't give her any veg, but get her to a vets as she should have sub-cutaneaous fluids injected or she'll get dehydrated.

If you are putting probiotic in water, be aware that it needs to be made up fresh at least twice a day, because it's basically bacteria - it might be easier to mush up some pellets and mix probiotic in with that?

Is she eating hay at all? Fibre will help her guts, so you could also ask the vet for some fibreplex to syringe her with (contains probiotic too)

yes she is eating hay :D I never knew that about the bio lapis I've always put it in the bottle and waited till it had gone
