  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

neutering dwarfs

My netherlands dwarf Hazel-Rah is being neutered on aug 3rd but because he is such a tiny rabbit im worried about how he will cope with an operation. The vet said that he should be ok. :? Any of you had problems with dwarf rabbits being neutered?

Nope - had a Netherland Dwarf, a mini lop and a mini rex neutered all fine (mini rex had a little bleed afterwards but nothing too serious!)

Ok thanks. I just didn't want to risk it if something terrible might happen to him. He's such a loving little thing:D Hopefully everything will be fine.

It doesn't matter if they're dwarves or not.
Most pet rabbits here in Norway are dwarves (as most pet stores only sell dwarves), and they're neutered with no problem.
I have a dwarf rabbit doe who got spayed at 2 years with no complications:D

I have just had my five month old lion head neutered, he is small and he went through the op absolutely fine. he has just gone back for his post op check and he is healing nicely. your vet should do a check over on your bunny before the op but i wouldnt worry too much, easier said than done i know!
