  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

the new culture I had done has shown pasturella so I have just spoken to the vet and have to treat the whole group, 5 rabbits twice a day with baytril for 10 days. Does that sound about right? good job I'm not working

Yep but it may take longer than that with a stronger antibiotic to shift in the infected rabbit.

yep he wants to see the worst affected ones after 10 days. Not sure whether my rats would need treating too as they're in contact with the rabbits :?

oh I've been moaning since xmas  will be moaning even more if i have to treat 5 rats as well  luckily I'm off work till september so won't need to be up at 5 to get all there meds done!!! :D lets just hope the baytril works this time, none of them is badly infected just upper respiratory! I hope I don't spill any either as he seems to have worked out exactly how much I need for 10 days, my old vet just estimated so I always had some left over!!!
