Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Clipping Nails Query

Dobby

Young Bun
Hi everyone, i found a site yesterday quite by accident and someone had a rabbit they wanted to give away.

They had bought it for their daughter who had now lost interest and wanted it re-homed. I went to collect itbut i have no idea of its sex, medical history etc but i do know its nails need clipping (and its a big ******) i think its a lop of some sort, i'm sure the vet will tell me

My query is: while checking its nails i noticed that there are 4 claws on its right foot and 5 on its left (the 5th nail on the left foot is curving inwards)

I will be booking it into the vets today to get it sexed and nails clipped, but how many claws should it have?

Rabbits normally have 4 claws on each back foot & 5 on each front. Is it possible the lft one which only appears to have 4 could have broken one off?

Well done for giving the bunny a new home!
I hope everything goes ok at the vets.
As Su says maybe the bunny has broken one off, especially if they are quite long. My Nala had long curly nails when i got her and they are still all twisted even when short... one of her nails never grows.. its just a tiny stump:? Doesnt bother her though but she obviously broke it off years ago and it just wont re-grow so dont worry too much;)

Well, we have ourselves a little girl

Her missing claw was there, they had just let it get so long the nail had come off

We don't know how old she is but the vet is guessing at about 12 months judging by her teeth which are in lovely healthy condition

Her name is Binkibert (my friend named her bert when we thought she was a he) but i liked Binki so we compromised

I'm going to have to sort out putting up some photo's soon. My litle brood are getting more beautiful by the day :D
