Rabbit Shows

Hi,
I have never been to a rabbit show and, out of curiosity, am thinking of going. Whats everyones experiances, are they worth going to and does any one know when the next ones are??
Thanks
Charlotte
p.s not to actually show a rabbit tho!

agree with Jane. I went with an open mind but I didn't like the conditions the bunnies were kept in. This was the Reading show in mid-summer and it was hot. I pointed out a distressed, panting bunny to a person in a white coat and was told "it's normal" and shot a look as if I was the dirt under the shoe
Basically too much focus on looks and none on the care of the animal

I show bunnies. Know nothing about the way they are done in England but all those I've been at have been indoors. The cages might be a little small, but it's only for a couple of days or less. (I tend to take mine home soon after the show is over)

What happens at english shows that make them so bad?

It's now a BRC ruling that rabbits MUST have water all day. If any of my Cashmere Lops appear stressed (which they don't) I would not show them to be honest with you. But they are watching what is going on and being curious in their pens so are not unduly worried. I don't like to show in the Summer so my next show is the end of September or so. All breeders are different and all have different opinions on a range of rabbit issues so you can't say all breeders are the same because they are not.

I know many on here are not keen on Rabbit Shows but I for one don't have a problem with them. I went to Bradford Show in January and found it very informative (it's one of the biggest in the Rabbit calendar).
The only thing I would say is I don't feel there is a need for summer shows ie June, July, August etc because (assuming it's a summer with sun) I think it is too hot for all the travel and being at the show.

x2.. When breeding chinchillas, I had been an avid show-goer.. But one thing that was never done, was scheduling of shows in the summer. The show season is Late Sept/Early October, until early May. The heat means no shows! Too bad this isn't a custom with bun shows :(

Thanks everyone, the nearest one to me is November 4th in Warrington so I might pencil it in my diary and pop along to have a look and hopefully I wont regret it!!!

Thanks x

How many stars is that Charl? If it's 3 star (most likely) there will probably be 200-300 rabbits there with one specialised class (ie Dutch or Beveren).
