Rex wanted for breeding...

What makes you sure it's a backyard breeder?
I put up a very similar add a few weeks ago cept I wasn't asking for just any colour on a rabbit-forum (which I happened to know was full of serious rabbit breeders).

Because if they were any other than a backyard breeder they wouldn't advertise in the way they did, there are plenty of show breeders around the UK so like you could have used a forum or got in contact with a local breeder, they seem quite happy to buy any rex doe people offer...well so long as its not black:roll:

Furthermore, any proper breeder wouldn't ask for any colour, they would be aiming for certain colour(s) to specialise in.

Possibly because any breeder worth his/her salt would surely approach another breeder where he/she would be able to verify the soundness of any rabbit being sold i.e genetic history etc. Hoping to pick up a free rabbit from a list of unwanted ones doesn't seem to me like someone who is interested in maintaining a good stockline.

It might be possible for you to research further into the genetic history of the rabbit(s) offered to you though, because as you say they are all serious breeders?

With classifieds it's not like that, the ad gives the impression that any rabbit that fits that description and is no longer wanted is suitable

That's the difference..you were using a rabbit forum whereas these adverts are just regular classified ads which people use when they are trying to get rid of something or find a bargain.

Alright, now that I think about it it may be silly trying to find a free breeding rabbit.
Most good rabbits cost a lot, and if it's unwanted surely it's for a reason... I wouldn't breed a pet store rabbit or an unwanted one. Zakura comes from a litter between a pet store rabbit and a rescue-rabbit (or to be precise, his previous owner couldnt' keep him due to allergies) and that litter ended up a total failure:rolleyes:
