  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Poorly eye

JoF

Young Bun
My bunny muppet has a weeping eye, I've bathed it as per the reference section, but do you think it will be OK to leave him till morning to see if it gets better? He is fine in himself, and has eaten his tea before having a bit of a run around & a dig in his tray.

He's had his myxo jab, but would he be looking so well if he had that anyway? His hay is a bit dusty I've noticed, so I was wondering if it could be that.

FYI he has a white discharge all around the eye, not on his fur but on his eyelashes. I don't think I did a great job of bathing it, with all the complaining and squinting.

Thanks for your time
Jo

I would wait to see how he is in the morning if it doesn,t look any better i would make a vets appointment.
I find some hays rather dusty,i now feed mine dust free hay.
Hope Muppets eye is better soon:D

Thanks for your help. I just can't stop worrying about my poor little man (even though he doesn't feel sorry for himself at all).

Parental responsibility is too much for me I think! ;)

Better to be safe than sorry though i suppose:D
I am sure Muppet will be fine and its good he doesn,t feel sorry for himself.Maybe he poked himself in the eye with some hay.
