Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Does Flossy have to be lonely forever?

My French lop Flossy has just completed 2 courses of panacur and is on Maxitrol drops (thanks Jane!) after being diagnosed with EC. This diagnosis ws due to Uveitis in her left eye (inflammation of her inner eye).My vet did not know a great deal about this condition but did read up on it and also send me some info.
Flossy lives alone and is 9 months old, she was due to be Monty's partner who I sadly lost in May after he broke his back. My vet as said that Flossy should always live alone now. She is blind in that eye but it is not getting worse and her Panacur courses are complete. I coninue with Maxitrol every other day and the condition is managed.
Is this right that she should be lonely? I am very disappointed as it was never my intention to keep lone rabbits and now 4 of my 8 are! (The others are very elderly rescues 2 of which are too old to be neutered)
Has anyone ever paired up a bunny after suspected EC? Obviously I know Panacur would be a must. Also when I challenged this that surely the Panacur kills this parasite, my vet said that I was indeed correct.
many thanks,

Lucy x

About 50% of pet rabbits have been exposed to EC and only a small portion develop any symptoms.

If your worried you bun might still have it and pass it on to the new rabbit your vet can do a blood test to check.

In you situation I think I would pair up but maybe do a precautionary dose of pancur after a couple of weeks or for the new rabbit before pairing. I'm not sure if a bun that's previously shown symptoms is at a higher risk of reinfection/developing further symptoms if the new rabbit has it.
