Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Gunk In eyes???

Dustbunny

Warren Scout
Recently, Dustbunny has been getting a little gunk or gooey stuff in his eyes... not outside near the tear ducts (?), but actually on his eye. He's been molting recently, and so i'll blame it on that, but I also expect his hay to blame... I fear it may be too dusty. He's his normal self- eating like a little pig, drinking plenty of water, and pooing/ peeing (believe me.... plenty!!!). I've been having to use my finger to take it out roughly every day, and he enjoys it as much as I do... i'll try to get pics up some time but for right now i'm having trouble posting images... Any ideas???

Could be an infection.. he doesnt have long hair does he? I only ask cos one of mine gets his long hair stuck to his eye sometimes and that causes little bits of goo on his eye. I use a cotton wool pad and cooled boiled water to wipe his eye clean. If its an ongoing problem might be best to get him checked out by a vet in case he has an infection there

Yes, he does have long/ medium-long fur... doesn't seem to have any today, but nothing seems infected so i Guess it's just the fur... thanks!

Pringle gets a milky liquid out his tear ducks when his teeth are botherin him, when i stroke round his eyes it comes out and sometimes drips. Could be his teethx
