Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

A balding cashmere????

Sooz

Wise Old Thumper
I had a 5 year old Cashmere lop arrive last night.

Tazmay would be truly beautiful except that her rear end resembles a poor attempt at a comb over  her owners said that the fur just fell out when they groomed her (I guess it would if it was all matted) and the vet couldnt see any mites or skin irritation at all (apart from dandruff).

Will it just grow back and is there anything I can do to help speed up the process/stop more falling out? :?

How strange! Old age/hair loss? Urine stain? Malnutrition?

You could try applying some aloe vera gel/cream as it will stop the area getting sore. One would of thought it would grow back if there isn't an underlying problem.

My Sh*tty has had exactly the same a couple of times. The bald patch covered her entire rear end.

In both cases the fur started growing back within a week or so. If the skin looks dark, it's probably the new fur growing through.

Unfortunately I have no idea why it happens.

There is a soft down of new fur sprouting, she isnt malnurished (Mollys fur fell out due to that  ) and its on her lower back so nothing to so with urine.

Poor mare she looks such a state, I should also add she has been pining for her mate who died a couple of weeks ago.....could it be that?

so happy to see this thread dillion is going through the exact same thing and vet told me it's just areally bad moult but i was so worried and started a thread on here. if she's eating and everything it should be ok
i'm hoping dillions hair starts to grow back quick there is new growth but he looks such a state

p.s don't mean happy that she's losing her fur more happy that it's not just my bun

Sometimes due to moult their coat can seem to come out in clumps (got one of my Cashmere Lops) and resemble poodles. I think at least all the odd coat is out fairly quickly thus not stopping the new coat from grooming.

Sorry I'm late in replying - only just run a search on RU on cashmere

No problem.

We supplemented her water with Avi-Pro and it sprouted rapidly, she has a soft down now.

She also has a new home and a cashmere cross partner :D
