Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Excess caecotrophs post bloat...

Hi all

Frankie is almost back to normal now :D He's eating normal quantities and has produced very normal looking large dry poops. However, yesterday and today I noticed that he was also produced a few (2-3) small caecotrophs (at about the same time, late afternoon) that he isn't eating. His bum and surrounding fur are completely clean. Should I be concerned about this or is it is just part of his body recovering from the shock of the bloat?

He's on a course of baytril too. Food wise I gave them a few pellets last night but otherwise it's just been hay since Tues evening.

Thanks x

My two both seem to have this problem when they are recovering from GI Stasis. I wonder if it is a case of the poo shooting through them after a gut stimulent.

If you have antibiotics, are you giving your bunny probiotics to keep his gut bacteria ok?
