Anybody know anything about beaphar anti-flystrike spray?

Since losing a bun to flystrike I like to keep them all rearguarded. The problem with this is that it needs to be done every 10 weeks and they HATE it. There is spray called Beaphar Fly guard. It is a spray, so would be easier to get on, and it claims to last for 3 months. The problem is, how do I know if this is snake oil or something that works? Why do vets use rear guard and not this one? Anybody know?

Im going to the vet tonight and will ask about this. I bought some yesterday and did my bunny.

Im interested too but I always take the view that what vets sell is usually best and teh vet sells rearguard

I find rearguard is easy to put on if you remove the applicator, pour the stuff into your hands and rub it in.

Thanks for that - I'll be interested to hear what your vet says, lucycat, and will also try the applicator free method of applying rearguard.

Just go along to the one near you karen. If they don't have any I can get it from Kevin and bring it when I come to see you later this week.

I have been using this and have found it very good, especially on the 'problem' bunnies I have had (who seem to be longhaired too :roll:) The bottle costs about £10 and so far I have treated about 10 rabbits with it which works out at pretty good value I think :D

What is the active ingrediant in Rear Guard? If its the same then I dont think it would be a problem although the beaphar is marketed more as an insecticide spray.

When I contacted the makers recently, they said the active ingredient was the same as in Rear Guard, it can also be used on Guinea Pigs
