  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Jack fell down the stairs last night

she jumped out of my arms and fell from the landing...about 11 feet.

I was so worried as she went very quiet (understandably) afterwards. I am booking her in for the vets. Nothing is broken AFAIK and there is no obvious limping but I was so worried I would find her dead this morning.

Is there anything I should be aware of? Can rabbits suddenly drop dead if they've had a shock like this?

I feel so awful, hardly slept dreaming about her breaking her back on the stairs. She was SO lucky :(

OMG 11ft

Well, if Jack has no obvious injuries and is eating + pooing normally and is not having any difficulty breathing (which may indicate a chest injury caused by the impact of the fall) hopefully she's had a lucky escape. I'd certainly get your Vet to check her over though.

there was nothing visible or we'd have been waking the vets up last night - she was jsut VERY quiet. I spent ages with her in the cage just stroking her trying to calm her down and reassure her (she normally gets fed up after about a minute of this and shoves my hand out the way but not last night) and Charlie was being a good husband and grooming her (albeit quite roughly!)...

like I say, no visible injuries but she's still really shaken this morning. I'm worries she's going to drop dead!

have booked the vets for 1410 - sod work, Jack is more important!

Awww Hun How scary!!! Im sure she isnt going to drop dead, hopefully she'll just be a little shocked. Hope your both alright Xx

Oh no, I hope Jack is OK. We had a very similar experience last night, and actually ended up at the vets at some ridiculous hour at night, he's OK though, will start thread as I have a few questions.

Snuggles to Jack.
