  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Abscess?!

Ali - Loki

Young Bun
In the week where we have already had a myxi jab reaction scare I noticed late last night that on Loki's lip there is what can only be described as a small pimple. I don't mean to be gross, but it actually looks like a white-head and is quite small and it wasn't there yesterday morning (I have been paranoid since the -myxi jab lump and having been checking his whole head for more lumps). He was also scratching that area last night so I wondered if he had caught the skin with his claws and it had got infected? I have already rang the vet and I am off there tonight as I have read that rabbits can get abscesses really easily. As it is so small - could it be an abscess? The vet didn't think we needed to rush there first thing this morning so we have an appointment at 5 tonight. Oh by the way he's still very active and all other functions normal.

im sure it will be nothing to worry about. like you say, he's prob just caught it when scratching or it may be an infected hair follicle. i would imagine that the vet will just squeeze it (some gunk may come out) and he/she will ask you to bathe it. dont worry yourself!
