  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Could it be mites?

Hi
I'veneverhad a rabbit with earmites before so i'm ntsure if Oscar has them I have him booked in to see the vet later in the week. He started over the weekend shaking his ears I thought he'd got a bit of hay down it but when I looked his ears are totally clear of anything dodgy. So could this be earmites? As i'vesaid I have got him booked in to see a vet. Any ideas anybody? He's not vigorously shaking his head just doing it more than normal.

One of my buns was doing exactly the same thing a few weeks ago.
I took him to the vets but they said he didn,t have mites.
The day after he was fine and not shaking his head at all:roll:
Still best to get it checked out though.:D

Yep, like Becca says it's always best to get them checked. Sometimes if you're observent so see behaviour changes like shaking his head or scratching his ears you'll catch them before they're visable. The vet will use a scope so they can see further down the ear :)

Best to get his ears checked if he's shaking them just to be on the safe side :)

Ozzy shakes his ears before he binkies :D
