  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Bit concerned!!

Jack was neutered about a week and a half ago and was given dissolvable stitches. This weekend, he has had abit of upheaval, as he had Friday night in the garage due to having our front bedroom decorated so didn't want him being affected by paint fumes. This meant he didn't get a run round. Then last night we opened his cage up thinking he would be manic, but he didn't really seem bothered, and came out abit. Today he has been out since we got up and seems fine. However, i am concerned because this morning I found a few small droplets of dried blood on the floor. They are not necessarily from Jack, but when I checked his feet etc, he has a bump just up from where his bits had been that looks sore. Will this be his stitches? I am wondering if they are itching and he has had a nibble, or has caught them. Can I bathe it with anything? Thanks.

I have been given some rabbit antiseptic shampoo by my vet which I use for cuts, if you're concerned it might be his neutering stiches you could always pop him back to the vet just to be on the safe side, post op checks are usually free.
