  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Think Fozzies sight is going

My poor Fozzie - shes never been able to see very well, but this week she just seems that little bit more unsure about things and is bumping into a few more things than she used to.

Shes seemed a bit reluctant to come out to play so i've been carrying her out to the grass and once shes out there shes fine. I've noticed shes got a few broken whiskers now - not sure if thats because shes bumped into too many things, or if thats whats making her a bit more unsure of the world?

I'll have to train up Archie as her guide bun....

Poor Fozzie. My Yorkie had bad eyesight for nearly 2 years before she passed and she coped really well for most of the time.
I think so long as you don;t move things around too much they can get about OK.
How old is Fozzie?

She is 4 next week but i'm sure she's had this problem since she was young so copes really well - as long as things don't get moved about like you say!

I think for a rabbit blindness is less worse than for humans. Bunnies use their sense of smell and their whiskers to orientate in the room. And house rabbits do not need to notice foes at long distance.
Therefore Fozzie will get well along it, I am sure.
