New Kit
i hope this is ok as i have a few things to ask,
the hutches my 2 female lionheads came in were very small only 3 times the size of the actual rabbit,so i put 1 in my big hutch and put my buck i already had in 1 of their smaller hutches, then i was lucky to get another big hutch cheap on ebay, for the other lionhead, now because of the hutches being so small the does where quite fat and very heavy and didnt move around much when i let them out,now they are much leaner like my buck and they have a run around when i let them out,so i would like to know a rough guide on how a rabbits bones should feel like under the skin in a healthy rabbit as my buck is quite lean.also my 2 lionhead does used to get on fine and be allowed out in garden to run around together untill they both had a litter of babies, after babes were born they were in garden and started fighting can anyone tell me the reason for this as they were fine before.and lastly can anyone give me a rough idea how much it would cost to neuter my buck he isnt very big.thanks in advance.i am glad i found this site.1 last thing i usualy wait a week to 10 days after birth before cleaning nest area i put all nest material back with clean sawdust and hay over a layer of newspaper,is this the right thing to do?

Hi again  I can only answer part of the question, the buck op should cos about £30. Its well worth doing as it quietens them down, stops them spraying, allows you to socialise him with the girls and most importantly, stops the chance of any breeding!

My rabbits are mostly of a healthy weight and they have an ample layer of skin over their bones, if I press I can feel the bones somewhere beneath but its no a questio of them sticking out or being lost beneath fat!

Hope you are getting on ok

I'm a breeder and I don't touch the nest at all until the babies leave it at about 3 weeks old. You should not be cleaning the nest out, by all means clean around it but you should never touch the nest itself. The does may reject the kits if you clean the nest out.

HTH.

I paid £50 to get my buck neutered.
The females may get on better if they are all spayed and bonded on neutral territory rather than housed separately and put to gether for playing.. they are probably just being hormonal.
Its difficult to explain how the bones feel on a rabbit.. two of mine you can feel their bones more than the 3rd one but the vet says they are a healthy weight and not underweight... I weigh them every so often - i have got normal human scales and i stand on them then pick the rabbit up and stand on them again and the difference is their weight.. probably not greatly accurate but gives you an idea;) My lionheads are all around 1.5kg each
