Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

*sigh* Now Clover isn't eating this morning

In the continuing cycle of stasis between my bunnies, it's Clover's turn this morning, before Dusty is even back to normal.

I spoke to the vet last week who wanted to try them on 14 days off the Panacur and Metacam then another 5 days on, as that seemed to be the 'trigger time', but I thought it was actually more like 10 - 12. Well, 7 days after the Panacur ended, here we are again. :(

Dosed her up on Metacam and Metoclop, and a tummy rub has produced a few poos, but no eating as yet. Dusty is on the same regime, but on a smaller dose.

I can't keep doing this!!!!!!!!! :(

Am going to cut all veggies out of their diets for a little while. Not that I think it's the cause, but just to try to make things simpler on their digestive systems. Will give them pellets twice a day, grass and obviously stacks of hay.

The vet is concerned about permanent inflammation caused by EC, that might be causing this stasis, as well as the possibility that the EC hasn't actually gone.

O-M-G.......

What a complete nightmare this is for you and the Buns

I cant remember if any blood profiles have been run on them :?
What about an abdominal U/S :?

I am still thinking post spay adhesions..... :?

Sending tons of vibes for Dusty, Clover and YOU!!

Thanks Jane. :)

To be honest, I'm now not sure what tests they've had and what they haven't (they've never had exactly the same treatment - so if tests have been run it would only have been on one of them, eg. Dusty had the EC blood test).

When I saw the really bad vet last time with Clover, she said something about liver function etc all working OK, but I don't think I've ever paid for a blood test - how would they know that then?

Going to have to pile them back to the vets - I just hope I can avoid it being today, as I'm having to duck out of work yet again as it is, and will have to beg my mum or aunt for a lift!! :( I wish the decent vet was more local.

I've just remembered - the vet talked about ultrasound scan, but said if there were bubbles of gas (which seems likely), it won't penetrate, so won't show anything up. :?

Blimey sarah, your bunnies really are putting you through it!

I`m so glad Clover is eating again & really hope you can get to the bottom of this soon, for all your sakes.

Sending loads more vibes..............................

Thanks Su. :)

Clover is looking very perky now (all hail the Metacam!! ), with a mountain of poo, and acting half-starved, so I think I'm going to try to call the vet rather than go in... Really hoping he will be working on Saturday so I can go then.

So sorry Sarah....this is exactly what used to happen to my bunnies until only a few weeks ago. I think EC is underated in terms of the terrible GI consequences in bunnies. Either that or Panacur is not killing the parasite well enough?! :?:

It should improve over time. I am convinced that this is what happened in my bunnies last year and it was utterly terrible. I used to send them for umpteen dentals too though. They do have dental problems but I'm now pretty certain they stopped eating for others reasons (EC) too.

The literature on EC is VERY poor overall. There is someone at Edinburgh University vet school who has a specialism in EC I have found out. I don't know if she is there anymore though. I'm going to try to speak to her.

Thanks Fiona - it helps so much knowing that I'm not just the most unlucky bunny owner in the world!!

When I have spoken to my vet about Panacur he's said that the 28 day course hasn't been fully researched - he gave me the impression that it was a figure more or less plucked out of the air.

But he's also said that EC causes horrible permanent organ damage, so that might be what is going on.

would be really grateful if you could find anything out, and I'll obviously keep in contact and let you know what happens here. :)

oh my goodness Sarah.. sorry i read your other thread before this one  Cant believe Clover is poorly again.. glad to hear Clover is eating again now though. I do hope you find out what is causing all this statis soon :?

Been looking at my new bunny illness spreadsheet (  ) and the only time they are well is when they are on the Panacur. This isn't news to me, but explains why Dusty is also going downhill gradually, only 2 days after finishing it.

Left a message for the vet to call me, so hopefully he will do tomorrow.

Just to update, neither bunny is particularly well but Clover has bounced back quicker. My vet just called me on his day off, as he is going away for 2 weeks (how lovely is that? I want to cry with relief!)

He wants me to try short sharp treatment with the Panacur with smaller gaps between Dusty's to Clover's, and to keep them on the Metacam.
