Giant Bunny in Pets at Home!

Joob-joobs

Mama Doe
I went into Pets at Home yesterday to pick up some super forage as my local petshop had closed early and what did I see.... a baby giant rabbit for sale! He was huge and he was only 8 weeks old. He was binkying all over the place when me and my boyfriend were speaking to him, loved the attention.

Poor wee thing. I hope he gets a nice home soon with someone who will properly understand his needs. I really wish they wouldn't sell bunnies in their stores.

There's a giant in my local store who is £129. It's been there for AGES, anyone with sense will not spend that on a rabbit.

The thing is though, they can't prove it's a giant as they have no idea what the parents are, they've admitted it themselves, so how can they advertise it as one when they have no idea if it's a cross breed etc. Not that I think they should sell them anyway, it just seems like false advertising to me.

There are 2 giants in my store. £129 each and I am pleased to say that they have set up a huge giant hutch for display there too saying that they would need this sort of hutch. Really hope they find a good knowledgable home.

Several giants have been sold from my local P@H - or at least they aren't there any more, and a new one has taken their place.

A new P@H opened near me on Saturday, and we went a couple of days ago to look round, they have a giant rabbit too.

He was in a "Tank" sort of thing opposed to a hutch, away from any other rabbits, and just looked soooo sad.

People were standing pointing, laughing at his ears and saying "Eurgh, its disgusting" etc, I was heartbroken! I though he was adorable! Poor mite.

Poor bunny being subjected to people laughing at it, I'm sure it would pick up on that. :(

I've only seen one giant in P@H and credit where its due, the space it was in was great. I just don't think that they should be sold to people who could buy on a whim...

how big is a giant ?

£129 is a lot of money for anyone...who buys these ? and why ? can they be picked up and cuddled ? or do they pick you up ?

£129 that's

At least it may deter people from buying them... but then what happens to them? :(

Hopefully they'll appear in their adoption bit and we can adopt them for less

pining for a rabbit - I don't think a lot of rabbits like being picked up and cuddled, preferring nose rubs, but giants you def wouldn't pick up and cuddle

Giant rabbits

:D Hi! I'm a new user on RU, saw the chat on giants and thought I'd join in!
I've always had rabbits, and 14 months ago had my first giant.
Spurred on by such a fab creature I am now mommy to 3 giants, and all 3 giants together don't have as much aggression as my netherland dwarf
They are such magnificent creatures :D and given the right home and lots of socialising they make brilliant friends.
I also have 2 dogs who love the bunnies.
I wouldn't recommend that anyone buys from a pet store, but from a rescue where they are usually neutered, bonded, vaccinated, and you know something of their past.

Welcome to RU :D Your bunnies sound gorgeous, do you have any pics to post on Stories and Photos section??

My frenchies like nothing better than being cuddled I know they are not giants as such but they are big  I hope these buns go to good homes too

Yep, there is one in my local store too! priced at £129 in the Perth store!! what the hell are they thinking of!!

I'm confused as I thought that they were going to sell neutered Giants and that's why the higher cost :? These don't sound neutered at all if they're youngsters

My local P@H (Wellingborough) had a young giant in there this week (I hate that shop but it's the only place I can get Excel Forage).

He was about the same size as a normal bunny, so I think he must have been very young. He seemed quite happy but I just think that by selling them when they are so little, people don't realise how big they will grow. Also, P@H is not known for giving good advice!

my local P@H have been selling giant rabbits for a few months now and they look happy enough to me, they have plenty of space and their is several notices right next to them saying what you will need and what care they will need. Also at £129 hopefully at that price it will be someone who really wants a rabbit and will take great care of it. From what I have read about giant rabbits they are brilliant to have and much more laid back than most rabbits

Would never pay that or actually any amount if its from P@H!!

You dont see them for sale much, anywhere - hence £129. Had to wait 9 months to find the 2 large/giant babies we have recently bought, Mum was 12lb, Dad 19lbs! Hoping they will be somewhere in between. My late Henry was 14lb+ - Its just more rabbit to love. He liked lots of cuddles, after he had jumped up on the settee to sit on my knee!

Farm centre near us has Hymalayian (can't spell) Giants - now they ARE big.
