  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Can Protexin be used alongside Avipro? Or is it only to be administered if the bunny is ill?

I know Avi pro can be used whilst they are settling etc... in but how does Protexin work?

Aww thanks for that Jane :D

I meant the Fibre plex one - can you only give that to bunnies who are ill rather than giving it daily with food /water?

Is Avi pro the one you can sprinkle on food or put in water?

Thank you! :D

You can give Fibreplex to a healthy Bun but I am not sure that there would be much point aslong as the Bun is on a good hay based diet. It may be of benefit to post weaned Babies but any benefits may be negated if administering it is stressful (ie if they wont take it mixed in food and you have to syringe it in)

Both Avipro or Bio-Lapis can be put in the drinking water or sprinkled on food

Are the protexin pellets no longer available then????

Haven't had to use them for a long while but they were ace, buns munch them up like they are regular feed!
