  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

The stuff that's like a little squeezy tube and you put it on the tails, like 15 drops each bunny and it prevents flystrike for two weeks, my friends going to vets and text me to ask what it's called and I need to text it back, but I can't remember I use it on my buns, but the packets at home

Also they same brand do like a mite thing too, but it's a seperate product.

What's it called?

Yes that's it :thumb: thanks for that, I have a hard enough time spelling anyway without trying to work out a crazy word like that

Hi Soad :D ,

Xenex Ultra spot-on. I used it on Harvey and Primrose last year but it gave them really bad burns on their necks. I washed it off immediately but it burnt a patch of their fur away and their skin went pink. I don't use it any more on the buns after that.

I think you can get other alternatives like Ivomec and flyguard. I think tea tree oil is supposed to help repel flies aswell.

Hope you and your buns are o.k.

Awww thanks for that, bunnies are good :D . I used it on the two bunnies that came in with the urine scolding, I asked the vets for stronghold but they only had that in. I did think the packaging was extreme, as it like kills cats  , but I kept an eye on bunnies and they didn't react badly to it. I put it on their tails, I was so scared it would be hot and the sores would attract flys :( .

I put it on all mine last year and 3 of them had really bad reactions - Lola's fur is still really funny in the area where i put it

but the piggies had it on and didnt react to it and neither did Bracken

i think a spot test can show whether your bunnies will be ok with it or not

Those of you who have had problems - are you sure you got the dosing right? I've used Xenex a number of times and never had a problem, but one vial will do about 4 of my buns as it's a number of drops per kg, which means my nethies literally have a couple of drops each.
