How long before claws need clipping?

Hi,

How do you know when it's time to get their claws clipped? Don't want to leave it too long but am also worried about the vet thinking I'm mad!!

Advice very much appreciated - thank you

just look at their claws - you should be able to tell from looking at them whether they are too long :)

you cant put a specific time on this because it depends on how fast your bunnies claws grow, what kind of surface they are kept on/get access to, whether they dig etc

if your bunny has white claws you can look at them and see the quick (think thats what its called) which is pink inside the claw. this is where the blood is so you wouldnt cut this far - you should then be able to tell how much growth there is from there

hope this helps :)

Depends really. My lot live outside and part of the run is on paving slabs, they never need their claws cutting.

However, I would imagine that if your rabbit lives inside or doesn't really move around much, they would probably need to be done more frequently.

Oh no - poor her :( Pacha's just had her done and it was fine. The vet said they can snap low down if they get too long, so I'm definitely going to get them done as soon as I can see them from now on.

just cut a little bit at a time. Supposedly there are 2 easy way you can tell:

1) if they scratch you and they injure you

2) if they really curly

The way i do it, is just cut 1 mm at a time, every 4 - 6 weeks, that way, you just cut it more often, and if the bunny get nervous just cut the 2 paw in the morning, and the other 2 in the afternoon
