  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Insurance

Daisy Pants

Young Bun
Just a quick question for you all.. do you know if there is a company that insures rescue bunnies? I've struggled to qualify for it before because I don't know the age of Daisy.. any one got any suggestions? We've just had an abscess, fingers crossed that's the last we see of it but the vet bills soon mount up.

Pet plan I think is what most people use. Do you have an approximate age of the rabbit. I guess they wouldn't be able to tell :?

This may be very random.. however the vet said you could only tell the age of a rabbit by the weight of its eye??!!?!? Any other suggestions?!?

Don't know about rescues, but Petplan is a good insurance company. I have got Tallulah (dog) and Snoopy insured through them. Can highly recommend them.

 The thought of an insurance company doing that

I used to just estimate the rabbits age for the insurance company if i didn't know (was with petplan). Now I just have a £40 pm direct debit going into a seperate bank account for vets fees which so far has worked out much better for me as you still have to pay excess with insurance!

to be honest i dont use any insurance just put money i an account or use O/H's Credit cards   i aways found it a waste of money as they dont cover some things, or i wouldnt use it one year plus having so many its just easier this way.

however i know Petplan are probably the only ones that cover rabbits

exotic direct and petplan are pretty much the same company. Exotic direct dont cover as much hence there premiums are cheaper

I've got mine done with Petplan. I think if you can give an aproximate that would be ok. THey can't expect you to start weighin eyes
Otherwise, like people have already said, a seperate account might be a good idea.
