Rabbit off her food...

Neil-and-Maria

Warren Veteran
Our beautiful rex doe goes off her food completely for one night approx once a month. She becomes quite lethargic and is not her usual cautious self. When laid out next to the food which she completely ignores, she doesnt even lift her head when we stroke her whereas usually she is quite alert when we come near. It worries us everytime she does it but all seems normal the day after.

Rita (our rex) is bonded with Dylan and they live happily together in the lounge. She also loses interest in him on these nights.

Any advice would be very much appreciated please, does anyone else experience this?

Thanks
Maria and Neil

Does she do it after having eaten a particular type of food eg something like broccoli? Does she poo and wee as normal when she is like this?

Nothing different in her food to normal. Always a mix of pellets and few fresh greens. Normally drinks really well and enjoys lots of hay. A perfect rabbit really.

Not really noticed any differences in her toileting. Just seems to lie down a lot more. However when she isnt lying down she moves around easily.

It's all a bit weird really.

Does she ever pass sludgey wee? Sometimes bladder sludge can present as intermitent cystitis-like pain which will cause the Bun to stop eating

Between the two of them they do drink and wee a lot. Much more than outdoor buns, but we put that down to being indoors. Rita always uses the litter tray so its hard to say whether her wee is different from the others.

There doesnt appear to be any pattern that we can see to her doing this. The first sign to us is that she isnt eating, then you watch for everything.
