Mites

I was brushing Furby today and I noticed little eggs in her fur almost like nit eggs:( ... I thought Fudge might of had mite about 5 or 6 weeks ago but the vet told me it was a reaction to the injection she had.....
Would I need these two vet checked ? My savvy vet is around 45 minutes away which can be a bit stressful, do you think I'd be okay with a local one to deal with possible mites ?
My husband reckons I'm seeing things and he can't see anything on her.

Does it look like dandruff? Thats why Rudy had an our vet checkout out some hair under the microscope to check and then he had some spot on to get rid of them. A normal vet should be able to diagnose it but if you feel more confortable with the rabbit specialist go to them

Didn't see dandruff :? .. Been out there and checked again and can't see anything now but the light wasn't great..I'll check again tomorrow and if there is little eggs I'll take her to the vets.. I'm very confused as what it is ..

This happened to little Marcy the other day, she had little specks that looked like eggs on her back and also had a little dandruff. When I inspected her closely some of the skin underneath was a little dry/scaly.

We were going to the vet to have her dental done anyway (poor Marcy - never rains but it pours  ) and he took a sample and found a mite under the microscope   .

She is now on Bimectin (oral) once a week for 6 weeks, the other bunnies who are in contact with her have to get it too.

Mits are a pain in the butt. I keep rats and they manage to get them at leat twice a year. God knows where from but have been told possibly hay.

Anyway, it's a bit of a mission to kill the darn things but what I do is - scrub all the cages and bedding, spray cage & hutch mite spray everywhere! Fumigated!

Wash all my rats & pigs with mite shampoo, let that settle, then use spot on from Baepher which is available from most good pet stores.

For the buns I do the same but use a spray as the Baepher stuff is expensive (3.99 for 4 pippettes and buns need one per 750g of body weight) but I would highly recommend this if you just had a couple of buns. It's non stressfull, very quick and very effective :D

I think you might be right Sooz :( I can't see any fleas on her and have looked again and can't even see any eggs on her today.. Can flea stuff be bought from petshops ? Do you think I should treat her and Fudge for this ?
Theres no dandruff and no flacky or soreness to her back.

You can get an over the counter spray for small animals usually. I treat mine twice yearly just to be safe so it wont harm to give them a once over.

Thanks Sooz, I'll go and get some later..
I get a bit confused with mites and fleas   when I explained it to my husband he said it sound likes fleas..
I'll scrub their shed out tomorrow and change all bedding.. If I cant get anything from the petshop I'll wait until Monday and nip to a vets.. Is this flea stuff just for rabbits or does it say small animals ?

Its just for small animals, I originally got mine for my orphan squirrels as they were covered.

Okay all done :D I've scrubbed their shed and replaced all bedding ..Hopefully if she has got fleas this stuff will sort it.
