Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Willow went for dental this morning, he has them every three weeks, and the vet said that as she was clipping/burring a tooth it feel out!! She says he now as no teeth on one side of his mouth. She gave him a painkiller and an anti-inflamatory injection. No meds for at home.

I've not seen him yet but OH tells me he seems fine and is eating but I'm worried about infection. I read so many bad stories about abcesses etc and am very concerned. Any advice?

Hi there,

I'm sure your bun will be fine after his tooth has fallen out. It may have been very loose anyway and just needed a bit of help actually detatching from the gum. Alice has problems with her teeth and during one dental the vet actually found a tooth embedded in her cheek. This tooth was really long and we were astounded how this could have grown so long and come out without either falling out of her mouth or not being noticed. Alice had no ill effects from this and actually put on more weight by not having teeth as she was no longer in pain. Alice has passed away now, but we used to blend her veg into small pieces as she ended up only having one tooth in her whole mouth!!
