  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Foot stamping: can it be a sign of sheer mardy-ness?

The weather here has been horrible the last few days and when the wind and the rain have picked up together, I've put the rabbits away safely, even if they haven't been out very long. The run is covered but it can't be much fun in high winds

Anyway, I've noticed that when I pick up Jen and put her back in the hutch and she hasn't been out in the run very long, she looks at me with thinly veiled disgust and then stamps her feet

I thought foot stamping was sign of fear??! :?

  I think she just sounds very cross with her mummy for not letting her play out for longer... Furby is awful for doing it, its always when shes not having her own way.

Lottie and Louis do it when I get one out without the other. Temper tantrum me thinks

Yep Dave does it too!

How is Dusty doing, Sarah? Got to the bottom of things yet?

Fingers crossed, back to normal at the moment, thanks. :) She's still on a small amount of Metacam (about to cut it down to every other day), and on a course of Panacur (tested positive for EC). Going back to the vets at the end of her Panacur.

 Glad it's not just Jen, then! She never stamps unless she's annoyed with me for something and then she's like a moody teenager   *STAMP* You can't tell me what to do! *STAMP*

A definite cob on!

My Biscuit is terrible for thumping if he is not fed first, or Tallulah has any attention. He can see me when I am in the kitchen and thumps terribly to get my attention! I feel sorry for the neighbours as when I am in bed I can hear him and know that he is not in any danger and we have a very solid house!!!

its girl rabbits i'm sure

sometimes Lola wakes me up thumping, just because breakfast is over-due!

and bracken will do it if she thinks its her turn for a run out of the room

frida doesnt really stamp now since she was speyed and neither of the wimpy boys do although Gus used to stamp when he was younger and then flop  he had no rabbit social skills when we got him and he used to copy Betty but without actually knowing what stamping was for - it was really cute and very entertaining. :D

 Nope, irs boys too. Barney does it if I've dared to pick him up.

Fidget does it when she's annoyed with me mostly

Occasionally from fear, usually I have no idea what's spooked her though :?

Ozzy does this aswell when i haven't let him out for long enough, he can see food but it's not in his run yet and also when i am doing something and dare to be not playing with him for more than 20 seconds

If he's out in the garden playing i always pick him up though and check he's ok and there's nothing dangerous about :)

XxX

Foot stamping

One of my 2 boys stamps his feet for the sheer hell of it - and to pretend he's in charge. He stamps if he thinks you're going to shoo him back in, not let him out when he thinks he should be let out - or even if he thinks your legs are in his way, as was the case last night! We think he's turning into Victor Meldrew!!!!!!!!
