Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Jaspers teeth

Hello all,

Just wondered what your opinions on Jaspers teeth are. He has serverly mis-aligned teeth and needs to have them burred every 3-4 weeks. Whilst he doesn't seem traumatised by it, he has to be gas cos he is such a wriggler, he seems fine when he gets home and is ok to eat straight away.

Towards the 3rd week tho his teeth are so long and wondering that it must hurt, like for instance when he's eating a pear and the force that goes on his teeth to actually chomp bits off, must hurt a bit. Altho I do cut it down for him, but means that he can eat all the chewy treats.

Anyway, my vet has mentioned about getting his teeth removed, which has to be carried out by another vet who specialise in dentistry.

I'm just trying to weigh up the pros and cons really. I don't want Jasper to die under the annesthetic, and I don't know this other vet or heard of his practice.

What do you think is best for him in the long run?

Hi there. Squidgy had his incisors removed 5 years ago, and he has been fine. I cut everything up for him, including hay and grass and he manages very well.

Yes Jane, they are his front teeth. Thanks for those links (blimey that second links pictures are hard viewing!)

HS - does Squidgy seem a happier bun? I'm wondering if Jasper will still be able to eat the grass on the lawn and any other things he finds in the garden?

also will he get jealous if I give them there usual treats as Jessica will be able to eat them and he won't - mind you Jess is a bit of a chewer so thats why i give them the chewy treats.

He's a much happier bunny. He is a lone house bun though, so has his own treats, and no bun to get jealous of! I pick grass for him and he has a treatball as his favourite toy.
