this little fella joined us today ...
we think hes about a week old .

poor thing was found in a pile of straw near a stable . it was a proper nest but something had trashed the nest and killed his brothers and sisters .

dont hold out much hope for the poor little fella as i doubt he ll take to a bottle at that age . :(

we have thought of putting him with hippo, piglet and roo to feed off their mum ....but we darnt risk it as hes a wild bunny and could be carrying something he could pass on :(

just tried a bottle or a syringe and he wont feed.

think his only chance is if we put him to our female to feed . :(

is it worth the risk. :?

Is he likely to be ill with something at such a young age? Would he not have a certain ammount of immunity from his mother?

Angie have you tried wearing a warmed up smooth glove and hold him on your tummy..against your skin...sometimes the natural feeling of a warm live thing to snuggle to can make a difference

Fingers crossed for the little chap.

no .

will pass that on to Tracey .

shes the one trying to save the poor little soul .

couldn't you feed him of your mummy rabbit but seperate from the other youngsters, like holding her and putting him to her tummy like twice a day for a feed then removing him again?

You'd be putting his life more at risk than the other babies by placing him with her permanantly, mainly because she will prob reject him and kill him :(

thats what we re doing with them all .

none are living with mum . the other 3 were seperated from mum at 2 days old because the owner had them in with 2 other rabbits and 2 babies had been killed . when they came to us we didnt put them back together as 1 , we thought she might kill them and 2 , we are pretty sure she is pregnant again .

That's great news!!!!! I think you were definitely right to give it a go. At least the little one has a fighting chance now :D

Mother rabbits will not kill kits that's a complete myth, they will only kill a kit if it smells funny or is weak. I have successfully shuffled babies around to make life easier on mums and babies and have had absolutely no problems. I've had a mum who only had one kit and successfully given her an extra three and she was perfectly happy.

Ditto, poor little thing!!!

Best of luck little chap (or chapette) - keep up the feeding and we'll see you soon

Heres the little fella today .
Not quite as fat :? ....surrogate mum is showing signs of getting ready to give birth so darnt let him feed as we dont want to pick her up or disturb her :?

Hes taking the kitten milk with a teat on a syringe but it s hard , slow work :?

We think he was a couple of days younger when found than we first thought .
